The Metropolitan Temple was a rather large congregationalist church at the corner of 5th and Jessie near Market in San Francisco built in the 1860's. He was destroyed in the fires following the earthquake of April 18, 1906. It was, on occasion, used for small theatrical productions or recitals. In March and April of 1890 a recital was given of some of Shakespeare's plays "for the Benefit of the San Francisco Teachers Mutual Aid Society" by Mr. George Riddle.
